MCG Blog Logo Usage Header 1Using Logos for Social Media Explained

  • There are 3.6 billion people on social media platforms worldwide. It’s important to stand apart by including your company’s logo when you’re creating branded content for social media.
  • Images can be shared widely across social media platforms or even on Emails. So a branded image is important for letting people know who made it.
  • You should pay attention to how you use logos for social media such as using proper file extensions and sizes.

Why Use Logos for Social Media

A recent report showed that in 2020, an estimated 3.6 billion people were using social media worldwide. It’s a number that’s projected to increase to almost 4.41 billion in 2025. Furthermore, social network penetration is constantly increasing worldwide and right now that number is near 49 percent.

That’s a wild fact that puts the world’s online usage in perspective. So with that many people online, small businesses, organizations, and corporations are always looking for ways to stand out.

So if your business is on social media, you should have a logo. You need to make sure that your logo is used in every video and image that you’re posting. This includes making it the right size and dimensions for your page elements. This includes profile pictures and banner images.

I have seen local organizations or small businesses use blurry or improperly formatted logos for social media. And unorganized social media posts hurt them in the long-run.

But I totally get it. Using social media requires a different skillset and mental capacity apart running a business or an org. This often requires hiring a dedicated marketing person but hiring costs and time investment can be prohibitive.

This is why McQuillen Creative Group works to help these business owners and organization executives simplify their marketing strategies.

You Never Know Where Your Image Might End Up

When you make a post on social media, you ultimately want people to engage with it in some way. This can mean reacting to it with a like, commenting on it, or sharing it with their followers. This is why using logos for social media is important. The audience will engage with you If a logo is clearly set on the profile picture and on the image.

If one of your followers shares a post with their friends, having a logo will make it recognizable to them. This means they will be more likely to engage with the content. And when you engage with them in the comments or with a message, they will likely engage with you.

There are lots of file formats out there. It can be tough to keep track of them.

Pay Attention to the Details

Lastly, the next thing to remember what social media platforms like when posting images and logos for social media. There’s a great cheat sheet available, but there’s a lot to remember. For example, if you’re making a post for Facebook, you need to know that the proper dimensions are 1200 pixels by 628 pixels.

And Instagram requires a minimum size of 1080 pixels by 1080 pixels. And these dimensions are different for page elements and even instant stories.

It’s also important to know what kind of file extension you’re using for your pictures and logos. Most pictures can be posted as .jpeg images. But this will be different if you’re adding words or graphics to the image.

If you save it as a .jpeg with those elements, then you’ll get blurry pixels. These are called artifacts, and we don’t mean treasures inside hidden temples. Artifacts can make images look less than crisp. A .png filetype is best used when you’re adding your logo and other graphics to an image.

If none of that makes sense to you, then you might want to give us a call. We keep track of all of those numbers and file types so that your marketing stays crisp and consistent.
