We had a unique request for online community management from a client for who we were building a website originally. Ben’s Repurposed Cabinetry is a Colorado-based business that takes high-quality kitchen cabinet sets and sells them to new home buyers or remodelers who are looking for a good deal. Our client put out the idea that he wanted to have an online space where his customers, contractors, and partners could come together to learn and share information. We told him that we offer social media marketing, but we could translate many of our existing services to offer community management. We revised our existing model to reflect the goal of building discussions and cultivating a healthy community.

We created a plan to create daily posts that could engage the audience by setting specific discussion points based on all-around DIY and remodeling projects. We also created a plan to moderate what potential members could join the group. We made sure that the online community management rules were set so that marketing was kept minimal and/or relevant to prevent product or service spam. We also determined a more relevant URL name for the group so that it could be easily searchable and be relevant to peoples’ interests.
